We all know about superbugs...

But they are not only found in
hospitals. They are found in
the home too. Tristel’s range
of cleaning products for the
home and baby, kills what
other disinfectants can’t, so
you can have peace of mind
every day.

Who are the most vulnerable to dangerous
infections?

Normal household disinfectants and cleaners are fine for
most people to use because they have healthy immune
systems. However, for people with compromised and weak
immune systems, the threat and impact of acquiring an
infection is high and very dangerous. This is the very reason that so many hospitals use Tristel's unique technology to help
prevent their patients from acquiring infections. People at
risk include:

The very young (premature babies, newborns and babies).
• Pregnant women and their unborn children.
• The elderly (especially if they are taking antibiotics after a
surgical operation).
• Diabetics.
• AIDS and HIV sufferers.
• Cancer sufferers.
• Sufferers of auto-immune diseases taking
immunosuppressant drugs. Common auto-immune
diseases are as follows:

Systemic Autoimmune Diseases

• Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and Juvenile RA (JRA) (joints;
less commonly lung, skin)
• Lupus [Systemic Lupus Erythematosus] (skin, joints,
kidneys, heart, brain, red blood cells, other)
• Scleroderma (skin, intestine, less commonly lung)
• Sjögren's syndrome (salivary glands, tear glands, joints)
• Goodpasture's syndrome (lungs, kidneys)
• Wegener's granulomatosis (blood vessels, sinuses, lungs,
kidneys)
• Polymyalgia Rheumatica (large muscle groups)
• Guillain-Barre syndrome (nervous system)

Localised Autoimmune Diseases

• Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (pancreas islets)
• Hashimoto's thyroiditis, Graves' disease (thyroid)
• Coeliac disease, Crohn's disease, Ulcerative colitis (GI
tract)
• Multiple sclerosis (There is still some debate as to whether
MS is an autoimmune disease.)
• Addison's disease (adrenal)
• Primary biliary cirrhosis, Sclerosing cholangitis
• Autoimmune hepatitis (liver)
• Temporal Arteritis / Giant Cell Arteritis (arteries of the
head and neck)

People that fall into these categories, and their carers,
should take great care to clean and disinfect their
environment thoroughly and regularly. Special attention
should be paid to the household Germ-Spots.
